Alpha thalassaemia trait describes individuals who have two missing, malfunctioning or defective alpha-globin genes. Individuals with alpha thalassaemia trait will experience no significant health problems except possibly mild anemia. The trait is recognizable because these individuals have smaller RBC’s; otherwise they look and feel healthy.
